It was truly a night to remember as simultaneous celebrations took place at all DDL sites on 12 September 2008 to mark the company’s 20th anniversary. At Ellesmere Port, the honour of cutting our birthday cake rightly went to our longest serving employee Geoff Parker who has been with us since day one!
Geoff has seen many changes since we first opened our doors for business in 1988. We began as a direct marketing support company providing mailing and marketing database services, but it wasn’t long before telephone response handling and mail order completed the picture to offer DDL clients a total one stop solution to all their direct marketing needs.
A simple philosophy for success
While many of our competitors have gone to the wall over the past two decades, we’ve continued to grow from strength to strength to become one of the leading direct marketing service operations in the UK.
Our success has been achieved by following the simple philosophy of making sure we get the right stuff to the right people at the right time and in the most efficient and cost-effective way. The methodology may have changed dramatically over the years from a starting point of elementary postcode and socio-demographic profiling to leading edge predictive modelling analysis, but this service commitment to our customers remains as strong a guiding force today as it was when we began operations back in 1988.
Most of all, however, our 20 year success story is down to our people.

We are proud of our record for keeping staff and never lose sight of the debt we owe to them – their loyalty, their skills and their dedication to always going that vital extra mile for our clients – as the vital ingredient that really makes all the difference at DDL.
Looking back, looking forward
And finally, it is only fitting that we should leave the word on our 20th anniversary to Managing Director David Bingle:
“In 1988, standing in a very empty warehouse wondering if the relatively new world of lists, call centres and mass mailings would take off to become a major part of the marketing mix, we never envisaged that 20 years on we would be based in four sites across the UK employing over 200 staff and providing such a diverse range of services for our clients as we do today.
During this time, we have seen direct marketing become a major part of every organisation’s marketing strategy and we can now take this opportunity to look forward to the next 20 years and the exciting times that must surely lay ahead for DDL Group and our clients.” |
